What Does the Compressor Do?
There are a few parts that work together to create a powerful A/C system, with one part playing an integral role to the entire function — the compressor. Think of the compressor as the heart of the A/C system. It gets the whole sequence started! Without it, your car would suck in the air from outside and blow it into the cabin at the same exact temperature. That wouldn’t help to cool off your car at all in the heat of summer! So if you notice that the air coming from the vents isn’t cool, that could signal a problem with the compressor. By pressurizing the refrigerant, the compressor removes heat and humidity to cool the air as it enters the vehicle, that way passengers can enjoy a huge difference in the temperature of their car’s cabin from outside temperatures. Even when it’s 85 degrees or more outside, the compressor makes it possible to enjoy cruising at a chilly 60 degrees!
Signs Of Problems
Because the compressor is powered by the serpentine belt, any damage or failure of the belt will result in A/C failure. But that won’t be your biggest concern, as a car can’t move without a functional serpentine belt! A major sign of any A/C problem is a lack of cold air coming through the vents. But a broken compressor may also cause strange noises, fluid leaks, or general inconsistencies with A/C performance. At the first sign of any issue, we recommend visiting our shop in North San Antonio, Texas! Carlisle Automotive specializes in auto A/C service to keep our customers cruising in comfort. Although you may not rely on your car’s air conditioning system year round, you shouldn’t neglect any issues that might be the result of dangerous and corrosive leaks.
