What’s Causing a Problem

Stay Cool and Comfortable

You count on your vehicle's air conditioning system to keep you comfortable, but what happens if it doesn’t seem to be quite right? Specifically, what might cause the A/C not to work or not to cool as it should? What can you do to keep it working well? For those answers and all your A/C repair needs, contact Carlisle Air Automotive at one of our three locations in San Antonio, TX.

Common Issues to Recognize

While you should always have a certified technician to properly diagnose and repair your car's A/C system, there are some common issues you can be aware of if your air conditioner stops working or isn't working well. For example, if you turn on the controls and the air doesn’t get cold, the refrigerant is often the source of the trouble. While that may be normal for systems that have been in use for a long time, if you add refrigerant more than every few years, a leak probably needs fixing. A compressor or pulley bearing on its way out may cause strange sounds such as banging or rattling. Further, if your car smells like a wet, dirty dog when you turn on the A/C, you could have mold growing inside the system. Puddling underneath the dash or a greasy wet spot under the car could also indicate an air conditioner leak. Finally, you may have an A/C clutch issue if you set the thermostat too cold and don't hear the system's clutch engage.

Things You Can Do to Keep Your A/C Happy

To ensure that your car’s air conditioner is "happy" and stays on the job of keeping you comfortable, there are some things you can do. First, check your A/C before you need it. Turn it on periodically during the winter months to ensure it works. It's also a good time to schedule a service visit with us, allowing you to beat the Texas heat before it hits. Our technicians will check the basic components such as the fan, fan clutch, refrigerant, and condenser. If the system needs to work to prevent or correct a problem, our experts at Carlisle Air Automotive can help. Contact one of our locations today to schedule an appointment.
